What is UL's 2218 Class 4 Impact Rating

You may or may not know that DaVinci Polymer Roofing Materials have a Class 4 Impact Rating. But what you might not know is that a Class 4 Impact Rating is the best impact rating that you can achieve as a product manufacturer of roofing tiles.

Underwriters Laboratories is not-for-profit independent testing organization that was founded in 1894. The UL 2218 test - which is the test for impact rating - was mandated by insurance companies because they had experienced large losses from replacing hail damaged roofs.

In some parts of our country, roofs with UL rated materials can qualify for an insurance premium discount. Of course, you might want to get in contact with your homeowner’s insurance provider or your business insurance provider to find out if such a discount applies to your home's or building's roof.

The UL 2218 test evaluates the effect of impact from the steel ball at locations on a roofing assembly selected to be most vulnerable, such as (but not limited to) edges, corners, unsupported sections and joints.

Based on how the roof passes the test, it will get classified as Class 1, 2, 3 or 4.
