1.2 Million Pounds and Counting

At DaVinci Roofscapes, we offer 49 different colors of synthetic slate and composite shake roofing tiles. This gives you an abundance of options to get the exact color --- or blend of colors --- you want on your designer roof.

Each time our manufacturing operation changes a color run of polymer tiles, there is a transition between colors. If you remember playing with Play-Doh as a child, it's the same thing. When you're finished with the red and start to put blue through your toy, there's inevitably an overlap ... maybe even creating a streak of color or a purple mixture. That's what happens when we make color run changes.

Polymer roofingThose transition tiles are "off spec" and immediately recycled at our facility in Kansas. They're ground up and moulded into starter shingles, which are generally not visible on a roof.

Why are we sharing this with you? Because June is National Recycling Month. And we believe it's important for you to know that every polymer tile we create is 100 percent recyclable. Because of our efforts, we keep about 1.2 million pounds of polymer scrap out of landfills each year.

Our record-setting recycling efforts include the remolding of more than 696,000 pounds of grinded scrap into starter tiles, and the transfer of 567,000 pounds of scrap to an end-user who makes pallets, crates and totes.

At DaVinci Roofscapes, we look for ways to recycle and reuse every single piece of composite roofing waste in our plant ... and, even on the jobsite. We encourage our roofing customers to return any DaVinci unused imitation slate or fake cedar shake roofing to us after they complete a project. We're happy to recycle and reuse those pieces to help assure that our full cycle of operations is as environmentally friendly as possible. (See Return Those DaVinci Scraps!)
