Recently an inquiry came in from an architect who was looking for additional ways to earn LEED® points for his new construction project. I suggested looking into using one of our cool roof colors. While all of our imitation slate shingles and cedar roof shingles have green qualities, the DaVinci EcoBlends are colors that are rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council, and using them may earn an additional LEED® point for a project.
What is a cool color? This simply means that the color will help reflect sunlight and heat away from your home. Higher emissivity and reflectivity rates lead to greater reductions in the cooling load and, in return, increase energy efficiency. These colors are tested and approved by the Cool Roof Rating Council.
The approved blends are EcoBlend Castle Gray and EcoBlend Weathered Gray. All colors can be plugged into either the slate, shake, fancy shake or Bellaforté profile to create a cool roof!
