Cedar Roof Shingles vs. Fake Cedar Shake

DaVinci Simulated Shake RoofingSo you love the old school look of shake, eh? We get it. However, it's not the best option these days not only because of the environment, but also because a wood shake roof can be a fire hazard as well.

Here are some of the main differences between natural shake and our shake:
  • The waste on a natural shake job is much larger than it is with DaVinci Shake. Real cedar shake has the tendency to break and crack and therefore is discarded on the job site. With DaVinci, you don't have the waste factor that you do with a natural product.
  • Natural shakes can be a fire hazard. With DaVinci Shake, you can get a Class A fire rating (ASTM E 108 / UL 790) with specialty underlayments.
  • Cedar Shake AlternativeThere is no freeze/thaw resistance with natural shake, so DaVinci ends up lasting longer. In fact, the shake nowadays is coming from younger trees and therefore isn't lasting as long as it used to - therefore natural shake has shorter lifespan than DaVinci Shake.
  • There is no color fade resistance with natural shake - in fact, it fades rapidly to gray after one year. And, let's suppose that you like the look of a certain real shake color on a roof - it's impossible to duplicate with cedar shake. With DaVinci Shake - you can duplicate the color and DaVinci tiles are embedded with UV stabilizers for color fade resistance.
Do you have real cedar roof shingles and are considering switching to DaVinci? How did you find out about our product? Have you had a chance to check it out? Please leave a comment on this post and let me know!
