Slate is a naturally beautiful stone. It has also turned out to be a great roofing material because it occurs in flat sheets that can be easily crafted into tiles. Fire resistant and downright beautiful, you have to wonder why slate isn't found on the roofs of every home and business. During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, it was a lot more popular than it is today, but that was before asphalt shingles were invented. As beautiful as slate is, since asphalt shingles cost less, they quickly became, in many places, the most popular roofing material.
However, asphalt still requires a fair amount of maintenance, isn't exactly good for the environment, and tends to blow away during windy weather. Nor does asphalt look as good as slate products. We love the slate look and that's why we developed lightweight, polymer tiles that look just like the real thing, come in even more colors, and won't chip or break like natural slate tends to do. We make them available in several widths and a nearly endless variety of color blends that come in pre-sorted, collated bundles for easier, quicker installation.
