The Week of October 7-13 is Fire Prevention Week. Do You Know the Fire Rating of Your Roof?

Most Americans focus on things like football, homecoming games, and Halloween parties during the month of October. This year, the week of October 7-13 is dedicated to something much more serious - fire prevention. Although doing all you can to prevent a structure fire is important at all times of the year, thinking about how you can make your home that much more resistant to fire may end up saving your life.

Lightweight Roofing SystemsThe roof in particular is something that a lot of people overlook. Folks might change the batteries in smoke detectors and check the fire extinguisher, but they might not even think of the roof as being a hazard. With there being so many different types of roofing materials, there is also a variation in fire ratings.

For example, a roof with untreated wooden shingles probably has a much lower fire rating than a roof covered by our fake cedar shake. In addition to looking just like authentic wooden shingles, our cedar alternative tiles, when installed with the proper underlayments, carry a Class A fire rating (the highest fire rating possible). This means that roofs using our products with proper underlayments not only look beautiful, they are also more resistant to fires than their natural counterparts.
