Believe it or not there are several types of nails that can be used on a roof and, depending on the type of tile, some are better than others. There are three types of nails that are most commonly used - copper, hot-dipped galvanized, and stainless steel:
- Copper: Nails made with this metal are used on roofing for some of the same reasons that copper tiles have been used as a roofing material. They are highly corrosion resistant though more expensive than other options.
- Hot-dipped Galvanized: Commonly used on asphalt and wooden shake, the main benefit of hot-dipped galvanized nails is their much greater resistance to rust than regular, galvanized nails especially in coastal environments. However, one issue with this type of nail is that they tend not to work as well in nail guns.
- Stainless Steel: Nails made of stainless steel are an excellent choice for any type of roof but are especially suitable for our roofing products. They are highly corrosion resistant and long-lasting. Since DaVinci roofs are meant to last for at least fifty years, a nail is needed that will last as long as possible and stainless steel fits the bill.
