Owning an older home oftentimes means focusing on upgrades to make a property look more appealing as it ages. For Houston homeowner Beth McEntee, the switch to a synthetic slate roof came from both the desire for a more attractive roof and the necessity of saying farewell to an older leaky roof.
“Our home was built in 1939 and we’ve lived there for about five years,” says McEntee. “We knew there was some leaking in the roof, but it became especially noticeable last year after Hurricane Harvey went through our area.”
Searching for Slate
Just like many homeowners, McEntee started her search for a new roof online, by visiting roofing company websites and Houzz.com.
“I love the look of slate roofs, and my husband and I decided that a synthetic slate roof would be the best fit for us since we’re in a very hurricane-prone area,” says McEntee. “Although more expensive than traditional shingle products, once we saw the DaVinci product we were convinced by the beautiful aesthetics, the hurricane resistance and the longevity of the product.”
With the roofing product decision made, McEntee worked with her roofer, FairClaims Roofing & Construction, and a DaVinci representative to select Bellaforté Slate composite tiles in a Slate Black color.
“We decided that black would best complement our traditional colonial style home that has mostly a white exterior with a black door and shutters,” says McEntee. “I loved working with FairClaims and DaVinci, both of whom were incredibly helpful in the planning process.
“Whenever I asked for samples, pictures, visualizations of our home with different color options and other aspects, both companies were very accommodating. I would highly recommend FairClaims and DaVinci to any of my friends or family members in need of a new roof!”
Investing in Synthetic Slate Tiles
Justin O’Neal, President of Sales and Marketing at FairClaims Roofing and Construction, wasn’t surprised by McEntee’s product choice. “We’re seeing sales trend upwards for DaVinci products in the past year or two,” says O’Neal, whose company has several locations throughout Texas. “DaVinci is an authentic-looking product with good features and a strong warranty that benefits our customers. That’s a great match for our area.”
For the McEntee home, the team at FairClaims removed laminated shingles that had deteriorated badly over the years. “The active leaks in this roof were really beyond repair and the homeowners made a smart decision to invest in a new composite roof,” says O’Neal.
“For this neighborhood, with traditional-style homes the DaVinci product is spot on. Their synthetic slate looks amazing and really fits the timeless style of this older home. The ‘before and after’ look of the home once the roofing was replaced is remarkable. Our team is proud to give new life to this home.”
McEntee agrees. “I think DaVinci’s synthetic slate was a perfect choice for our home,” according to the homeowner. “It offers a classic, timeless look and it immediately refreshed the curb appeal of our home!”
